It is said that the origins of rings can be traced as far back as ancient Egypt, approximately 4000 years ago, when rings were already being made.

Rings became common knowledge in Japan in the late Edo period (1716-1853). After that, from 1887 to 1896, rings began to appear in advertisements in magazines and newspapers, and by 1897 to 1907, rings had grown into a popular trend. From this, we can say that rings were jewelry that was easily incorporated into fashion even during a time period when people were wearing Japanese-style clothes.

In Yamanashi, where the history of jewelry began from crystal processing technology, remaining records indicate that crystal rings were being bought and sold in Kofu in1874. Around 1893, with crystal polishing and precious metal processing (i.e., decorative metalwork), rings made by hollowing out crystal into a ring shape and inlaying a gold ring on the interior, etc., were produced and became hugely popular.

In 1961, restrictions on importing diamonds and colored stones were eased, and this trend continued into 1973 when metal imports also became less restricted. With the expanded varieties of colors and designs available, diverse types of jewelry were then produced.
