Outline

The Yamanashi Jewelry Museum opened in 2013 as a museum affiliated with the Yamanashi prefectural Jewelry art College (commonly known as Houbi). The museum exhibits diverse collections, including the history of jewelry in the prefecture, aimed at fostering the development of the local industry.
“The Visionary of Modern Jewelry: HISHIDA Yasuhiko’s Retrospective Exhibition" exhibits a remarkable collection featuring key works by Hishida Yasuhiko (1927-1981), a metal engraver instrumental in the establishment of Houbi.
It is of great significance to exhibit Hishida's works at the museum, given his role as a committee member involved in creating the foundational plan for the establishment of Houbi in 1977. Furthermore, as vice-chairman he eagerly anticipated the opening of the school, but unfortunately passed away just before the opening, missing the opportunity to attend the opening ceremony.
In addition to the countless contributions he has made as an author and educator, Hishida pioneered the art of jewelry making in postwar Japan. His effortlessly timeless works continue to surprise us with new discoveries even today.
Please enjoy this retrospective exhibition as a rare opportunity to view Hishida's valuable works from his youth to his later years, all gathered in one location.
