Outline

Incelebration of 10th anniversary of the Yamanashi Jewelry Museum this year, we will hold a memorial exhibition entitled, “The Expressions of Metal: Houbi’s Principal and his team.”
The museum first opened on September 28th, 2013 in affiliation with the Yamanashi prefectural jewelry art college (orlocally known as “Houbi”), and has since introduced Yamanashi’s local jewelry industry through a variety of topics.
This particular exhibition focuses on the main material used in jewelry, metal, and the many expressions it conveys through its various textures. Works by Iino Ichiro, the principal of Houbi, will be featured along with those crafted by Houbi faculty members, who are both instructors and artists.
The works on display will attempt to convey the expressions of metal through sleek forms, delicate yet unique ambiences, and textures that make you want to reach out and touch them. These works (including jewelry and crafts) are able to effortlessly build upon traditional techniques, deeply appealing to those witha modern aesthetics and immersing them into a rich viewing experience.
Select tools and test pieces created during the production process will also be on display, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about the background of the artists and their creative process. Observe the prototypes to see how each artist dedicates themselves to a single work of art and goes through trial and error for the sake of exploring the possibilities of expression.
During the exhibition period, you will also have the chance to listen to commentary about the works from the artists themselves, adding an extra layer of enjoymentto your visit.
"Houbi Exhibition Vol. 5" will be held concurrently until July 31st, featuring displays introducing the school's educational activities. This exhibition is held every year that introduces “Houbi” to a wider audience by displaying works created by students according to their curriculum and more.
Then, from August 5th, the "13th Annual Exhibition of Young Crystal Sculptors" will take place, displaying works by the Prefectural Crystal Art Sculpture Cooperative Association’s youth division, followed by the"JJA Jewelry Design Award 2023" from September 14. This award aims to reach audiences in Japan and overseas with the message of how far Japanese jewelry has come and how incredibly talented its creators are—further pursuing the possibilities of high-quality artistic jewelry.

We invite you to come and enjoy the various expressions of jewelry pieces and crafts with " The Expressions of Metal: Houbi’s Principal and his team."
