「Yamanashi Jewelry Now: Museum selection 2 ”Living with Nature”」
2014.7.19-2014.10.13
Closed: Tuesdays, 9.24
Room :"Yamanashi Jewelry Today"
The YJM opened in September, 2013, thanks to support provided by the Yamanashi jewelry industry. Its mission includes spreading information about Yamanashi as a rare and precious jewelry producing area to the wider world and serving as a locus for joint public-private efforts to promote new local industries.
In April, 2014, members of the local jewelry industry donated some 50 works making use of Yamanashi technologies and designs to the museum. We are showing those works in a series of two exhibitions.
In the second of those exhibitions, entitled Living with Nature, we are exhibiting works whose motifs are taken from nature or works that convey a strong sense of nature. Most sculptures and other works in the plastic arts are formed to be appreciated with the eyes. With jewelry, a unique type of sculpted object, however, we can enjoy both looking at what the artist has created and wearing it. Most opportunities for wearing jewelry, moreover, occur in urban settings. Jewelry makes possible thinking about nature and living as part of nature, even in the city. The act of wearing nature changes something within us. As you enjoy this exhibition, please let your imagination soar.
