Our school was established in April 1981. We are the only school in Japan that aims to cultivate talented students in the jewelry industry, one of Yamanashi’s traditional local industries.
The jewelry industry in Yamanashi Prefecture has a long history and heritage and currently produces one third of the jewelry made in Japan. Therefore Yamanashi Prefecture has a diverse resource pool of knowledge and skills in jewelry such as gem processing, precious metal processing, production, and sales. We will set the standard for the job industry and will train students with the ability to perform well in a variety of tasks. We will also maintain a high standard of educational cooperation with the jewelry industry of Yamanashi.
Coursework is composed of a highly technical curriculum from basic skills to higher-level applied knowledge. After graduation, students can continue to expand their knowledge in our night study course called “High-Tech Specialized Course.” The object of this course is for those already in the field to continue to study higher-level skills in Yamanashi.
In addition, students at our institute may also obtain qualifications and certifications such as the Yamanashi Prefecture authorized “Jewelry Master Authorization,” the Japan Jewelry Association’s “JJA Jewelry Coordinator Certificate and Certification Examination,” and their “Gas Welding Course.”
Our institute, located in the major jewelry-producing district of Yamanashi, is a technical college run by the Yamanashi Prefectural Government, and whose goal is the cultivation of talented craftsmen and women who can contribute to the development of the local jewelry industry. We have produced many graduates who can answer the strong expectations of the local jewelry industry for passionate and skilled young talents. We continue to keep a short distance between academia and industry, and we will continue to promote the cultivation of talent, through our pillar of a practical curriculum, and unified industrial, government and academic sectors.
Specifically, students will master the basic knowledge and skills of jewelry work through experience with applied technologies under the guidance of professionals, in an environment made possible only by our location in a jewelry-producing region. Moreover, we will move a school building to the center of the town in Kofu in September, 2010, and will do more advanced education. We will also foster an environment together with the jewelry industry here in Yamanashi to allow our alumni to become jewelry experts in the future. Our goal is for you to "study and work right in the center of production."
