Individual Prefectural Inhabitant Tax

The Yamanashi Prefectural Inhabitant Taxes are collected from all residents in the prefecture. The revenues collected from the Prefectural Inhabitant Tax are used to promote the stability and better life quality of Yamanashi residents. The Prefectural Inhabitant Tax includes the Individual Prefectural Inhabitant Tax, the Corporate Prefectural Inhabitant Tax, and the Prefectural Interest Income Tax.

The Individual Prefectural Inhabitant Tax is collected along with the Individual Municipal Inhabitant Tax by cities, towns or villages.

Individuals required to pay this tax

  1. Individuals who have resided in Yamanashi Prefecture as of January 1st of every year ... per capita levy and per income levy
  2. Individuals who own business offices, business facilities, or residences in the prefecture but reside in municipalities separated from the ones in which these offices, facilities, or residences are located as of January 1st of every year  ... per capita levy only

Tax Amount

  1. Per capita levy ... 1,000 Yen
  2. Per income levy ... 4% of the income

Tax Exemption

1.   Disables who are protected by law under the Daily Life Security Law ...exemption on per capita levy and per income levy

2.   Disabled, under-aged, widow or widower with total income below 1,250,000 yen in the previous tax year ... per capita levy and per income levy except the separated tax upon retirement

3.   People whose total income from the previous tax year is less than the amount calculated by the following formula ... exemption on per capita levy

Municipal Amount ×(Spouse+Number of Dependents+1)+Additional Amount (determined by municipalities)

4.   People whose total income in the previous tax year is less than the amount calculated by the following formula ... exemption on per income levy

350,000 Yen ×(Spouse + Number of Dependents +1)+Additional Amount of 320,000 Yen

※The Additional Amount in 3 and 4 only applies to exempted individuals to have spouse or dependent(s).

Tax Filing and Payment

  1. Tax Filing deadline is March 15th
  2. Individuals who have already filed income tax, or whose income from the previous year only consists of employment income or public pension are not require to file tax.
  3. Individual Prefectural Inhabitant Tax is collected periodically along with the Individual Municipal Inhabitant Tax by cities, towns and villages.

① For individuals who receive employment income:

Tax payments are deducted from your salary/source of income monthly from June to the next May for a total of 12 times.

② For individuals other than people who receive employment income:

Tax payments are collected quarterly. The payment amount is shown on your tax notice.

(Deadlines for tax payments are specified by your municipalities.)
