The environment of Yamanashi is well suited for deciduous fruits, including grapes, peaches and plums -- each more plentiful in Yamanashi than anywhere else in Japan. Cherries, persimmons, apples and Japanese apricots are alsogrown here on the many orchards around the Kofu basin. Visitors and natives alike cannot resist fresh, ripe grapes, which are very healthy and delicious. The sweet aroma of peach blossoms in the spring air can whet any appetite.
Commerce supports the affluent consumer lifestyle of the citizens of Yamanashi and has developed into of the one of the main pillars of the prefecture’s economy.
With the recent diversification of consumer needs; changing of commercial areas due to the completion of road and transportation infrastructure; opening of large super markets, shopping centers and convenience stores; and swift exchange of information, the commercial environment is rapidly transforming.

In recent years, electronics and precision machinery companies have moved to Yamanashi and are expanding their energetic manufacturing activities. Industrial manufacturing herehas increased so rapidly that in the past ten years the prefecture's rate of increase in the value of manufactured goods has been the top in Japan. Industry has quickly become one of the driving forces in Yamanashi's economy.
